Naomi Grace McAfee

March 10, 1921 — August 9, 2020

Naomi Grace (Sarver) McAfee was born March 10, 1921 in Lone Elm, Kansas, to Glenn Clayton and Neva Grace (DePoe) Sarver. On August 9, 2020, she went to her eternal home to be with Jesus. She attended school in Lone Elm and was valedictorian of her graduating class. After taking classes at Pittsburg College, Kansas, she taught at Richmond, Kansas for seven years.

On November 3, 1946, she married Donald Ross McAfee at Ottawa, Kansas. Don and Naomi had five children. She was a dedicated mom and wife first and foremost. She loved making people feel welcome in her home.

Naomi was an active member of First Baptist Church, Garnett, Kansas. She taught Sunday School (preschoolers) for many years, was active in the choir and the women’s group, and helped with Vacation Bible School (even into her nineties.) The Educational Wing of First Baptist, Garnett, was dedicated to Don and Naomi.

In 1991, Don and Naomi were honored as the Anderson County couple of the year for their community service. In 2010, (at age 89) Naomi was recognized as the Anderson County Volunteer of the Year for her years of serving as a Pink Lady at the Anderson County Hospital.

Naomi also served on the library board in Garnett and was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter H, until her health no longer allowed her to attend meetings.

Naomi was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents, Glenn and Grace Sarver, and her sister, Maxine Wollen.

Naomi’s family was extremely important to her. Her children are Carol Riedel and husband Gary of Centralia, Missouri; Lowell McAfee and wife Jennifer of Olathe, Kansas; Gary McAfee (Rob Strell) of Albuquerque, NM; Mark McAfee and wife Yonnie of Wichita, Kansas and Duane McAfee and wife Celia of Marion, Iowa.

Grandchildren are Ross McAfee and wife Linsey of Yigo, Guam; Ryan McAfee of Merriam, Kansas; Carrie Lucas and husband Jon of Columbia, Missouri; Paulette Thorne and husband Jacob of Wildwood, Missouri; Heidi Haynes and husband Joe of Centralia, Missouri; Kevin McAfee and wife Caroline of Phoenix, Arizona and Megan Juhan and husband Dakota of Kansas City, Missouri.

Great-grandchildren are Jade McAfee, Arlington, Texas; Lily McAfee of Warrensburg, Missouri and Rose McAfee of Yigo, Guam; Ellie and Clayton Lucas, Columbia, Missouri; Annabelle, Clara, Ella and Grace Thorne, Wildwood, Missouri; Jillian and Kinsley Haynes, Centralia, Missouri; Croi McAfee, Phoenix, Arizona; and baby boy Juhan who will arrive in November.

Mike and Lynn Wawrzewski were special friends. Naomi will also be missed by her nieces and nephews, church and community friends.

Naomi will be missed here by her family and friends but we rejoice that she is singing songs of praise to our Lord with the rest of her family who have gone before.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Friday, August 14, 2020, at the Garnett Cemetery. Memorials in her memory may be made to the First Baptist Church, 417 S. Walnut, Garnett, Kansas.
