Marguerite E. Adams

d. February 13, 2019

Marguerite E. Adams, age 86, of Kincaid, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at Residential Living Center in Garnett, Kansas. She was born on May 2, 1932, in Critzer, Kansas, the daughter of Thomas and Edith (Ball) Clark.  She was the second oldest of four children.  She lived all of her childhood in and around Blue Mound, Kansas, graduating from BMHS in 1949.  Her fondest memory in high school was being a majorette and twirling her baton, which she recently did quite well.  After high school, Marguerite married her true love, Richard Adams, on October 20, 1949, in Iola, Kansas.  This union was blessed with three children, Terry, Twila and Tom. Marguerite held various jobs throughout her life.  She was an usher at the Blue Moon Theater in Blue Mound during high school, she worked for Cappers, and she was a lunchroom cook for Crest schools.  Marguerite was a servant both for family and the community.  She volunteered for various organizations and helped with local benefits.  She was a member of the Ladies VFW Auxiliary, where she helped by fixing meals and with benefits.  She always cooked for her church or funerals.  She was a member of the Kincaid Selma Methodist Church.  Marguerite was a charter member of the Kincaid Advancer’s Club, which was chartered in 1957.  In 2019, she would have been a member for 62 years.  She volunteered for the election board, served on fair committees, and was always there when needed.            Her passion and talent was cooking and caring for her family.  Nothing made her happier than to cook a huge meal, then sit back and watch everyone enjoy the food.  Her favorite time was Christmas and cooking a huge meal.  She collected hundreds of recipes over the years.  She was the true meaning of a homemaker.  Marguerite was an avid gardener and loved plants and flowers of all kinds.  She was a self-taught pianist and enjoyed playing for the church and later at Guest Home Estates.  She and Richard had many friends whom they went on trips with and had over to play cards.  Their favorite game was pitch. Marguerite will be remembered for her thoughtfulness, kindness and her beautiful handwriting.  She was so proud of the home that she and Richard had together.  She often said “it was the nicest house she’d ever lived in”.  She was also proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She loved all of them very much.  They were her greatest possessions.  When you visited her and Richard, you were always welcomed, fed, and made to feel special.  Marguerite always put others first.  She will be missed by all who knew her.  She was a wonderful cook, mother, friend and sister. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Richard Adams on March 22, 2016; one son-in-law, Marvin Gates; one brother, Melvin Clark; and one sister, Wilma Jones. She is survived by two sons, Terry Adams and wife Joy of Berryton, Kansas, Tom Adams and wife Sandra of Kincaid, Kansas; daughter, Twila Gates of Lawrence, Kansas; six grandchildren, Rochelle McGee and husband Craig of Garnett, Kansas, Ryan Adams and wife Kristin of Ottawa, Kansas, Kaylene Stanton and husband Tony of Wellsville, Kansas, Matt Adams and wife Kara of Topeka, Kansas, Sarah Phillips and husband Ronnie of Perrysburg, Ohio; Emily Woodruff and husband Ben of Shawnee, Kansas; great grandchildren, Ally, Aaron and Eric McGee, Morgan and Bailey Adams, Will, Hudson and Hank Stanton, Berklee and Kolton Adams, Conner, Corbin, and Cannon Phillips; one sister, Mary Ellen Bayless and husband Stanley of Wichita, Kansas; and numerous extended family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 18, 2019, at the Kincaid Selma United Methodist Church.  Burial will follow in the Kincaid Cemetery.  The family will greet friends from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Sunday afternoon at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Kincaid Selma United Methodist Church and left in care of the funeral home.  Condolences can be left for the family at www.feuerbornfuneral.com
