George C. Flinn

March 20, 1945 — February 10, 2020

George C. Flinn, age 74, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2020, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

George was born on March 20, 1945, in Garnett, Kansas, the son of James M. and Etta May (Hermon) Flinn. He attended Garnett High School. George was a member of the U.S. Army, and served during the VietNam War. Following his time in the service, George returned to Kansas City before making it back to Garnett, where he farmed with his dad. After the death of his father in 1973, George went to work as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 101, working on countless projects that built and rebuilt the highways and massive construction projects in and around Kansas City. George was united in marriage to Sharon Hirt. George sometimes found himself as Sharon’s reluctant helper, but their house always reflected the work that they put into it, from Halloween decorations to the Totem Pole. George loved working on his old cars and enjoying a cold beer with his cat, Bud Light, or anyone that would stop in to see what George was working on.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Flinn, of the home; three children, Chad Flinn of Garnett, Angela Scheckel and husband, David, of Richmond, Kansas, Waylon Zwiener and wife, Elvira, of Emporia, Kansas; seven grandchildren; sister, Milda Caleb; five nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.
