Edna Ruth Boots

Edna Ruth Mitchell Boots passed away Friday, December 27, 2019, at The Parke Assisted Living in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Edna was born in Westphalia, Kansas on March 30, 1924, the oldest of three children born to Edwin and Pearl (Lankard) Mitchell. After high school in Westphalia, Kansas, Edna taught school at Glenwood School in Coffey County, Kansas for two years. During World War II, Edna taught in her hometown school of Chase Mound, Kansas. Later, Edna taught and was the principal at Welda, Kansas. She then served as county superintendent for Anderson County, Kansas.

On May 23, 1948, she married Paul Boots, to which 5 children were born. Paul and Edna lived on the Boots family farm west of Garnett until the spring of 1963, when they bought a bigger farm and house near Centerville, Kansas. After moving, Edna started working as Clerk of the School Board at Prairie View in LaCygne, Kansas. She retired from there on March 30, 1977, after 12 years of employment. They remained on the farm until full retirement, moving to Ottawa, Kansas in 1993. Paul passed away April 3, 2008, and Edna remained in their home until moving to The Parke Assisted Living in August 2013.

Edna was a member of the First United Methodist Church throughout her life and attended the church services, “Because He Lives” at The Parke Assisted Living in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Edna was devoted to her family, friends, and deep faith. She attended the weekly Bible Study classes at The Parke. Edna also loved to oil paint, of which many can be seen at St. Mary’s Mission St. Philippine Duchesne Memorial Park near Centerville, Kansas. She also taught oil painting classes to many of the residents at The Parke. She always enjoyed a good game of bridge, croquet, or anything she could win!

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Clarke Starr.

She is survived by her brother, Bob Mitchell and wife, Ginny along with her children, Linda Wilson, husband Jim of Grove, Oklahoma, Rita Nye, husband, Keith of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Gail Boots and fiancé, Edna of Claremore, Oklahoma, Bill Boots and wife, Linda of Olathe, Kansas, Doris Hill and husband, Mark of Fairland, Oklahoma. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.

We will all miss you, Nanny, but we know you are with our Lord, happy and pain-free. Until we meet again…….

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, January 3, 2020, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett, with burial following in the Garnett Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at 1:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
