Debra Lee Brooks, age 65, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2019, at the Anderson County Hospital, Garnett.
She was born November 18, 1954, in Colony, Kansas, the daughter of Donald and Frances (Miller) Nickelson. Debra married Bob Brooks on April 22, 1994, in Wichita, Kansas.
Debra grew up in Ottawa, Kansas, graduating from Ottawa High School in 1972. She was crowned Miss Oldsmobile in 1972. In the 70s she worked at Ottawa Coop, then went on to raise a family until the late 80 's. She worked at Ottawa Retirement Village as the apartment manager, and then the Director of Assisted Living, which she took great pride in caring for the elderly residents. In later years, she moved to Wichita, Kansas, where she worked in the office of J.T. Transportation, until retiring and moving to Garnett, Kansas.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Nickelson; and one sister, Kathi Nickelson.
Debra is survived by her husband, Bob Brooks, of the home; four children, Rachele Poe and husband Ray of Ottawa, Kansas, Ruby James and husband Cary of Ottawa, Kansas, Joe Sutton and wife Samantha of Moran, Kansas, and Shaye Finch and husband Jeffery of Ottawa, Kansas; seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild on the way; her mother, Frances Cooper of Garnett, Kansas; and one brother, Doug Nickelson and wife Sandy of Clearmont, Florida.
