Christine Hawkinson

Effie Christine Hawkinson, 89, of rural Savonburg, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Sunset Manor Nursing Home, Waverly Kansas.  Christine was born January 26, 1930, on the family farm near Stark, Kansas.  She attended Mount Zion country schools and High School, Stark, Kansas, graduating in 1947, and also attended Chanute Junior College and Pittsburg State Teachers College.   She taught at Fairview country school, Stark, 1949 – 1951. She married Frank P. Hawkinson on November 25, 1951, at the Stark Friends parsonage and lived on a farm near Savonburg.  She remained on the farm until moving to Sunset Manor in March 2018.    She was a member of the Stark Friends Church. She spent her life caring for the church and community, being the hands of Jesus. Christine is survived by three sons, David, Charles, Gary; one daughter, Sheryl; and their spouses; eleven grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, James Haddan; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Haddan; both of Stark. Christine was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer William and Zulah Z. (Bennett) Haddan; her husband, Frank; two brothers, Bennett and Bill Haddan;, five sisters, Nellie Woodworth, Mary Smith, Iva Mae Gordon, Anna Lucille Haddan, and twin sister, Pauline Rush.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas.  Family and friends are invited to stay after the service for a time of reflection.  Private burial with family will be at the Odense Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Stark Friends Church, and may be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola, Kansas.
